Stephanie Cheng worked in the Autonomous Systems Lab under Gabriel Elkaim to design a low cost Obstacle Avoidance System to help in the field of computer vision. With a pulsing fanning laser, a webcam and using the method of frame subtraction, they could then theoretically determine the objects in the room.

She first began with figuring out what triggered the shutter, then controlling the pulses that triggered the laser and webcam to achieve the results needed in order to perform the frame subtraction. The desired results were not achieved therefore, the next step would be to further explore laser, camera and software options.
